Allied Professionals Day – June 14th 2012, Leicester

'Care of the oculoplastic patient: The role of the interdisciplinary team'

The executive committee of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society and myself John Cooper (Oculoplastic Specialist Nurse, Manchester) cordially invite you to the inaugural Allied Professional Day at the annual BOPSS meeting in Leicester this year. We are extremely proud to be inviting you to our own specialist meeting with a programme that has a multitude of stimulating lectures from several prominent and esteemed individuals, especially organised for nurses, prosthetists, technicians and other allied professionals, including:

  • Professor Janet Marsden (Manchester Metropolitan University)
  • Mr. Trevor Graves, OBE   (Oculoplastic Specialist Nurse, Leicester)
  • Mrs. Rhona Jacques  (Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield)
  • Ms. Anne Cook (Consultant Oculoplastic Surgeon, Manchester)
We are also extremely pleased that the organization Changing Faces, who have been instrumental in providing support, lobbying for and helping individuals with facial disfigurement will be talking at the conference. They are keen to provide education and advice for professionals who may encounter or care for such patients and the lecture will provide a backdrop to their work, and an insight to some of the fundamental approaches patients with facial disfigurement and professionals alike can adopt to enhance positive coping strategies in day to day life.

The programme also includes two exciting lectures from Mathew Pilley and Zoe Tennant providing an introduction to post exenteration and enucleation prosthetic care and fabrication.

The programme has been generated and developed to include a wide variety of topics and we hope that this will appeal not just to those specifically working within oculoplastics, but also to those in general ophthalmic settings. To see the full programme click here.

As part of your registration you will be able to attend the concurrent medical conference on both the Thursday and Friday (14/15th). You will have lunch/coffee provided, get a conference bag and have access to the medical exhibition and posters.  To register click here.

We would be very grateful if you could pass information on this meeting to your colleagues/juniors in your/other allied speciality departments and display the flyer on your departmental notice board.
